Woods lawyers listed as top litigators in Canada

Lexpert published recently its 2022 listing of Canada’s top dispute resolution practitioners including ten Woods’ lawyers in Lexpert Special Edition: Litigation. This group of lawyers combines excellence in legal practice with innovative and effective solutions to their client’s strategic challenges in the most complex disputes.

Congratulations to:

Air India ltd v. CC/Devas (Mauritius) ltd & al. is included in Lexpert’s annual list of the year’s most significant commercial decisions in Canada, the Top 10 Cases of 2021-22. In this case, Woods successfully represented Air India against recognition and enforcement proceedings related to an approximately US$111M arbitral award rendered against the Republic of India pursuant to a bilateral investment treaty between the latter and Devas. On September 20th, 2022, the Court of Appeal of Quebec granted our client Air India’s appeal and quashed the seizure before judgment of US$17M of its funds held by the International Air Transport Association, a Montreal-based trade association of the world’s airline. Patrick Ouellet, Ioana Jurca and Marc-Antoine Côté represented Air India.

In addition, Justina Di Fazio discusses in an article on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards how a recent decision has brought closure to the limitation period question in Quebec.
